Moor's Head Vase - Omar

Omar is a male testa di Moro with a dark face — the traditional representation of the Moor in southern Italian ceramic art. He stands about 30 cm tall and is entirely hand-sculpted and painted by our artisans in Vietri sul Mare.

His face is glazed in a deep, glossy black, which makes a strong contrast with the white turban wrapped around his head. The turban is decorated with teal and blue beading, and a golden medallion with a painted flower sits at the centre of his forehead. He wears a teal hoop earring and the crown at the top features the same red ceramic spheres and gold detailing you see on the other heads in this collection. His eyes have a warm, golden-brown tone and his moustache and beard are carefully sculpted in relief.

Omar makes a strong impression on his own, but he also pairs well with our Aisha head — they share the same colour palette of teal, red, gold, and white. Together they make a classic duo for a sideboard, bookshelf, or mantelpiece. The hollow top can hold dried flowers or a small plant.

Every Omar is shaped by hand on the workbench, painted freehand, and fired in the kiln. The depth of the black glaze, the exact curve of the moustache, the placement of each bead — these will vary slightly from piece to piece.
