Ceramic Sea Urchin Table Lamp

Our artisans shaped this lamp base entirely by hand, building up each individual spike one at a time around a rounded ceramic body. The form is inspired by the ricci di mare — sea urchins — that you find all along the Amalfi Coast. It's the kind of piece that stops people mid-conversation when they walk into a room.

The ceramic base is finished in a deep, matte blue that shifts between teal and navy depending on the light. Each spike is slightly different in length and angle, giving the whole thing an organic, natural quality. A brass fitting rises from the centre and holds a classic white fabric lampshade, which softens the light nicely.

As a table lamp, it works well on a bedside table, a console in the entryway, or a sideboard in the living room. The scale is right for a medium-sized surface — substantial enough to be noticed but not so large that it overwhelms. The combination of the sculptural ceramic base with the simple shade keeps it balanced.
