Handpainted Rectangular Serving Plate

We call this a sushi plate because of its shape — a rectangular platter with softly rounded corners and a slightly raised edge — but honestly, people use it for all kinds of things. Antipasti, cheeses, grilled vegetables, cured meats, or yes, sushi. It is one of those shapes that just works on a table.

Our artisans in Vietri sul Mare paint each one freehand with a wreath of Mediterranean fruit running around the border: lemons, oranges, red apples, bunches of purple grapes, and plenty of green leaves, all connected by soft blue-green curling vines. The rim is sponge-glazed in a warm teal green, and the centre is left white so the food you serve on it stands out.

The plate has a good weight to it and sits flat on the table. It is practical for everyday meals, but it also looks right at a dinner party or a weekend lunch with friends. The colours are food-safe, so you can use it with confidence.

Each plate is painted by hand, which means the fruit might sit a little differently, the greens might vary in shade, and the sponge work on the border will never be exactly the same twice. That is how you know it came from Vietri sul Mare and not a factory.
