Oil and Vinegar Set with Sunflowers
A handmade oil and vinegar cruet set painted with sunflowers and poppies by artisans in Vietri sul Mare. Food-safe glazes.
Olio e aceto — oil and vinegar. In Italy every table has them, and we think they deserve something better than plain glass bottles. Our artisans in Vietri sul Mare make this set by hand: two small round-bellied cruets sitting side by side in a joined ceramic tray with a handle between them for carrying.
The decoration is bold and cheerful. Each cruet is painted with large sunflowers and red poppies against a yellow and deep blue background. The colours are rich — brown centres on the sunflowers, dark green leaves, touches of teal, and yellow-gold bands along the base. The stoppers are round and glazed in a warm honey-brown. Everything is painted freehand, so the flowers on one cruet will never look exactly like the other.
The set is made for daily use at the table. One cruet for your olive oil, one for your vinegar — red wine vinegar, balsamic, whatever you prefer. The tray catches any drips and keeps both bottles together so you can pass them easily. All glazes are food-safe.
Each piece is shaped on the wheel and kiln-fired in Vietri sul Mare. Small differences in the painting are normal and part of what makes handmade ceramics worth having.
