Square Wall Plate with Fruit Still Life

We call this a piatto murale — a wall plate, meant to be hung and admired. The square shape with softly rounded corners is unusual for ceramic plates, and it gives this piece a different presence on a wall compared to the traditional round format.

The centre is painted with a full still-life composition on a cobalt blue background: lemons, grapes in pink and blue, red apples, pears, and pomegranates, all layered together with green leaves. The wide yellow border around the edge features hand-painted baroque scrollwork in brown and burnt orange — curling acanthus leaves and flourishes that frame the fruit scene. Our artisans in Vietri sul Mare paint this entirely freehand, building up the layers of colour one at a time.

At 30 cm, it's a good size for a wall — enough to make an impression without taking over the room. People hang them in kitchens, dining rooms, or hallways. Some customers buy a pair and flank a doorway or window with them. It can also sit on a plate stand on a sideboard or shelf.
