Handpainted Breakfast Cup and Saucer

In Italian we call this a tazza da colazione — a breakfast cup, the kind you'd use for your morning cappuccino or caffe latte. It comes with a matching saucer, and both pieces are shaped on the wheel and painted freehand by our artisans in Vietri sul Mare.

The cup has a warm yellow glaze on the upper half with bold red poppies and green leaves painted around the body, while the lower half dips into a deep cobalt blue. The handle is yellow, giving you a nice contrast when you pick it up. The saucer follows the same palette — concentric rings of blue and yellow that tie the set together without competing with the cup's decoration.

The shape is generous, wider and rounder than a regular coffee cup. There's room for a proper Italian breakfast drink with plenty of foamed milk. But people use them for tea, hot chocolate, or just as a nice bowl-shaped cup for broth in winter. The saucer is wide enough to rest a small biscotto next to the cup.

Made with food-safe enamels and kiln-fired for durability. Each cup and saucer is painted individually, so colours and flower shapes will vary a little from set to set — that's the mark of genuine handwork.
