Scalloped Fruit Bowl with Sunflowers

We call this shape a capovettica — a wide, open bowl with a scalloped rim that fans out like petals. Seen from above, it almost looks like a sunflower itself, which fits perfectly because that's exactly what our artisans have painted on it. Three large sunflowers with brown centres and yellow petals sit among green leaves and clusters of small red flowers, all painted freehand on a background that shifts from warm yellow at the rim to deep blue in the centre.

The scalloped edge gives the bowl personality. Each lobe curves outward slightly, and you'll notice blue finger-shaped indentations along the rim where the artisan pinched and shaped the clay while it was still soft. It's a detail that reminds you this was made by hand, not pressed from a mould.

At the table, it's great for fruit — oranges, lemons, figs look beautiful sitting in it. It also works for serving salad, bread, or just about anything you want to present nicely. When it's not holding food, it sits happily on a sideboard or kitchen shelf as a decorative piece.

Made in Vietri sul Mare using food-safe glazes. Each bowl is painted individually, so expect small differences in the placement of the flowers and the exact shade of the colours.
