Scalloped Cake Plate with Lemons
A 33 cm scalloped cake plate in cobalt blue with hand-painted lemons. Made freehand in Vietri sul Mare.
Our artisans shape this cake plate with a soft, scalloped edge — the kind of wavy rim that Italians call smerlato. Seen from above, it looks almost like a flower. The wide border is painted in deep cobalt blue, with yellow lemons and green leaves winding their way around the rim in a continuous garland. The centre has a bright yellow ring around a clean white well, which gives whatever you place on it a nice frame.
Everything is painted freehand in Vietri sul Mare using food-safe enamels. The blue background is rich and deep, applied in slightly uneven strokes that give it warmth and movement. The lemons are bold and round, each one a little different from the next.
At 33 cm across it's a proper cake plate — big enough for a torta della nonna, a round of cheese with fruit, or a pile of biscotti. It also sits beautifully on a wall or propped on a shelf when it's not in use at the table. The scalloped edge catches the light in a way that flat plates just don't.
