Moor's Head Vase - Karima

Karima is the female companion to our Karim head, and she shares the same blue-and-white colour palette. At about 40 cm tall, she is one of the larger teste di Moro in our collection — hand-sculpted and hand-painted by artisans in Vietri sul Mare.

Her face is glazed in white with features painted in soft blue tones: arched eyebrows, detailed eyes, and full blue lips. She wears a draped turban decorated with delicate blue scrollwork, blue pendant earrings, and a necklace of rounded blue beads. The crown at the top is adorned with blue ceramic spheres, and a teardrop jewel hangs at the centre of her forehead. The overall look is elegant and cohesive — the single-colour palette against white gives her a porcelain-like quality.

Karima and Karim are often bought together as a pair. They look striking on either side of a mantelpiece, on a sideboard, or flanking a doorway. Individually, Karima holds her own on a shelf or console table. The hollow top means you can use her as a vase for dried branches or flowers if you like.

As with all our handmade ceramics, each Karima is slightly different. The depth of the blue, the curve of the eyebrows, the exact placement of the beads — these are the things that make each piece individual.
