Oval Serving Plate with Fruit

In Italian, a long oval serving plate like this is called a sperlunga. Our artisans in Vietri sul Mare shape each one by hand and paint the decoration freehand — a ring of Mediterranean fruit running all the way around the wide rim.

The fruit includes yellow lemons, clusters of deep blue grapes, rosy peaches, and plenty of green leaves, all painted against a white background. The border is outlined with thin brown lines and framed by a soft aqua band at the outer edge and an ochre stripe near the centre. The middle of the plate is left clean and white, ready for whatever you want to serve.

At its size, this is a proper serving piece. People lay out sliced meats, grilled fish, roasted vegetables, or a whole branzino on it. The oval shape gives you more room than a round plate and looks right on a table set for a group. It also works well mounted on a wall or propped on a plate stand — the painted fruit border is just as good to look at as it is to eat off.

Made with food-safe glazes in small batches. Because each plate is decorated by hand, no two are identical.
