Moor's Head Vase Rayan with Lemons

Rayan is one of the larger and more elaborate pieces in our Moor's Heads Collection — a testa di Moro standing 40 cm tall, sculpted and painted entirely by hand by our artisans in Vietri sul Mare. It takes considerable skill and patience to build a piece this size.

The face is painted in deep brown-black with a sculpted beard, moustache, and golden eyes. The white turban wraps around the head with realistic fabric folds and draping. What sets Rayan apart is the cascade of sculpted lemons — yellow, textured, and true to life — that tumbles down one side of the face, mixed with green leaves and a blue flower. The crown at the top holds several glossy blue ceramic orbs, and yellow ring earrings complete the composition.

At 40 cm, this is a substantial decorative piece. It works as a floor-level accent, on a large sideboard, or as the centrepiece of a shelf display. The open crown can hold dried flowers or trailing plants, but honestly, Rayan is dramatic enough on its own. The lemon detail gives it a strong connection to the Amalfi Coast — it's the kind of piece that brings a bit of Southern Italy into any room.

Every head is unique. The sculpting is done by hand, the lemons are built up individually, and the painting follows no template. Variations in features, colour, and form are what make each one its own.
