Wall Plate with Lemons and Oranges

Our Bice wall plate — piatto murale — features lemons and oranges with their leaves against a deep cobalt blue background. The fruit is painted in a tight, overlapping cluster at the centre of the plate: plump yellow lemons, a couple of golden-brown oranges with their textured skin, and rich green leaves fanning out around them. White curling details fill the blue background.
The rim is finished with a simple ochre-gold edge that frames the whole composition cleanly. At about 30 cm across, it's a good size for hanging — large enough to see the detail from across a room but not so big that it overwhelms a wall.
Our artisans in Vietri sul Mare paint the Bice design freehand, building up the lemons and oranges with layers of colour. You can see the individual brushstrokes in the fruit skin and the veins in the leaves. The cobalt blue background is applied with a slightly uneven hand, which gives it depth rather than flatness.
Lemons and citrus are as Amalfi Coast as it gets. Customers hang these in kitchens, dining rooms, and even bathrooms. Some buy a few different lemon plates to create a wall group — this one pairs well with our other blue-and-yellow designs.
