Sunflower and Poppy Wall Plate

Girasole means sunflower in Italian, and on this plate you get three of them — big, loose, painted with the kind of confidence that only comes from years of practice. Our artisans in Vietri sul Mare work freehand on every piece, brush to glaze, no outlines or stencils.

The background is a warm yellow wash that covers the entire surface, giving it an almost golden glow. Three sunflowers with dark brown centres sit among green leaves and curling stems, and a few red poppies are scattered between them. At the bottom, a sweep of deep blue grounds the composition. The rim is finished with a thin ochre border. It feels like summer in a single plate.

At 30 cm in diameter, it's a comfortable size for hanging on a wall. The flat back makes it easy to mount, and it looks just as good leaning on a plate stand on a kitchen shelf. Many of our customers buy these as a memory of their trip to the Amalfi Coast.

Every plate is slightly different in its brushwork and colour — that's the nature of handmade ceramics from Vietri. We've been selling them from our family shop in Praiano since 1960.
