Square Fruit Wall Plate

Not all our wall plates are round. This square piece — about 30 cm across — has a different feel on a wall. The corners give it a more modern, graphic quality, but the freehand painting keeps it firmly rooted in the Vietri tradition. Our artisans shape and paint each one by hand.

The centre shows a ring of Mediterranean fruit on a deep blue background: lemons, oranges, red apples, bunches of green grapes, and a split pomegranate showing its seeds. Green leaves and small white scrolls fill the spaces between the fruit. The yellow border carries a vine pattern in dark green that continues to the rounded corners of the plate.

A square plate is easy to hang and sits neatly in spaces where a round plate might not work as well — between windows, in narrow hallways, or as part of a mixed arrangement. It also works propped up on a plate stand or a small easel.

As with everything in our shop, this piece is handmade in small batches in Vietri sul Mare. Each plate comes out a little different — the way the pomegranate is split, the shade of green on the leaves. Our family has been selling Vietri ceramics from Praiano since 1960, and the square plates have always been among our favourites.
