Flat Scalloped Oval Plate with Sunflowers

In Italian this is a sperlunga smerlata piana — a flat oval plate with a scalloped edge. Our artisans in Vietri sul Mare shape each one by hand, pressing the wavy rim before glazing and painting it entirely freehand.

The decoration features sunflowers with warm yellow petals and brown centres, paired with red poppies and plenty of green leaves. A yellow border frames the whole composition, while the centre is a deep hand-brushed cobalt blue. The scalloped edge gives it a more decorative, old-fashioned feel than a straight-rimmed platter, and the flat profile means food sits neatly across the surface.

We find customers use these for serving bruschetta, cold cuts, grilled vegetables — anything you'd lay out flat. They also look great mounted on a wall or leaning on a plate stand on a shelf. The generous oval size makes it a natural centrepiece for a table setting.

Made with food-safe enamels and fired at high temperature. Like all our handpainted ceramics, slight differences in the brushwork and colour intensity are normal and expected — that's how you know a real person made it.
