Handpainted Fruit Wall Plate

We call this a piatto murale — a decorative wall plate — and it's one of our most traditional designs. Our artisans in Vietri sul Mare paint each one freehand, building up the fruit motif with confident brushstrokes directly on the glazed surface. No transfers, no templates.

The centre shows a generous arrangement of lemons, grapes, pomegranates and apples, all nestled among broad green leaves. The background is kept white to let the fruit colours come through clearly. Around the rim, you'll see a warm yellow border decorated with a repeating leaf scroll pattern, finished with a solid blue edge that frames the whole piece.

Most people hang these on a kitchen wall or in a dining room. The plate is 30 cm across, so it makes a good focal point without taking over. It also sits nicely on a plate stand if you prefer to display it on a shelf or sideboard.

Every plate comes out slightly different because of the handwork involved. Small variations in the colour depth or the way the leaves curl — that's the artisan's hand, not a flaw. Our family has been selling these from our shop in Praiano since 1960, and the workshops in Vietri have been making them even longer than that.
