Lemon Wall Plate on Blue

Sole means sun in Italian, and the colour scheme on this plate — golden lemons against deep cobalt blue — captures exactly that feeling. Our artisans in Vietri sul Mare paint these entirely by hand, and the lemon motif is one of the most iconic designs from this part of Italy.

The plate is organised in concentric rings. The outer ring shows a garland of lemons on their branches against a blue background, with green leaves winding between them. A band of golden yellow with a geometric leaf pattern separates this from the inner ring, which continues the lemon-on-blue theme in a tighter, more densely painted arrangement. The overall effect is layered and detailed without being cluttered.

Lemons are everywhere on the Amalfi Coast — on the trees, in the food, on the ceramics. A plate like this is a direct connection to the landscape and traditions of this area. Hang it in a kitchen, a dining room, or anywhere you want a piece of the coast.

Each plate is painted freehand, so the placement of every lemon and leaf is slightly different. The blue glaze can vary a touch in depth depending on the kiln firing. We've carried this design in our Praiano shop for years, and it remains one of our most popular pieces.
