Fruit Wall Plate with Scalloped Rim

We call the wide decorative rim on this plate a falda — it gives the piece a more formal, almost baroque feel compared to our flat wall plates. At 40 cm across, it's one of our larger pieces and makes a real statement on a wall. Our artisans in Vietri sul Mare shape the scalloped edge by hand, then paint the entire surface freehand.

The centre shows a dense arrangement of Mediterranean fruit on a deep blue background — lemons, grapes, pomegranates, an orange, and an apple, all surrounded by green leaves with white scroll details. The wide falda rim is painted in warm amber and ochre tones with a repeating loop pattern that gives it an almost sculptural quality.

A plate this size works well as a centrepiece on a large wall, above a doorway, or over a sideboard. The scalloped rim catches light nicely, so it looks good in a spot where daylight or a lamp can reach it.

As with all our Vietri ceramics, no two plates are identical. The brushwork varies slightly from piece to piece, and the colours may shift a little depending on how they react in the kiln. Our family has been curating pieces like this at our shop in Praiano since 1960.
