Ceramic Squid Wall Sculpture

In Italian, a totano is a European flying squid — one of the most prized catches along the Amalfi Coast. Our artisans have turned it into a wall sculpture that's so realistic, people do a double take when they see it. Every detail is modelled by hand: the elongated body with its reddish-brown markings, the side fins, the large glassy eyes, and a tangle of tentacles with individually shaped suckers.

Look closely and you'll notice a small blue fish caught in the tentacles — a little narrative detail that our artisans like to add. The colouring is naturalistic, with warm browns and reds blending across the body in horizontal bands, fading to cream and beige on the underside. The glaze gives the whole piece a subtle sheen that catches the light, almost like wet skin.

The sculpture is designed to hang flat on a wall. It looks right at home in a kitchen, a dining room, a beach house, or a restaurant. We've seen customers mount them in bathrooms too — anywhere with a connection to the sea. The size is substantial enough to be a real focal point.

Part of our Fishes Decor collection, this piece is sculpted and painted entirely by hand in Vietri sul Mare. Because each squid is individually modelled, there will be differences in the posture, colouring, and tentacle arrangement from one piece to the next.
